Genetic studies indicate genetic differentiation between coastal and offshore shrimp in the Barents Sea stock, which could have implications for management (Hansen 2020)(Hansen et al. 2021)(ICES 2022). However, a single stock is considered in the Barents Sea and on the Svalbard fishery protection zone (SFPZ) (ICES 2022) exploited by the Norwegian and Russian fleet, and other vessels (Greenland, Iceland, the UK, and EU) are restricted to the SFPZ and “Loop Hole” (European Parliament 2015)(MCS 2023)(Aravind et al. 2024). Additionally, the Faroe Islands, through bilateral agreements, is allowed to fish under Russian jurisdiction, the SFPZ is under Norwegian management, and the Loop Hole is under NEAFC jurisdiction (Addison et al. 2023).
