SUMMARY

IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Penaeus duorarum

SPECIES NAME(s)

Northern pink shrimp, Pink shrimp, Grooved shrimp

COMMON NAMES

Spotted Shrimp, Hopper, Pink Spotted Shrimp, Brown Spotted Shrimp, Grooved Shrimp, Green Shrimp, Pink Night Shrimp, Red Shrimp, Skipper, Pushed Shrimp

The population structure of the species is not clear but there are indications that the Northern Gulf of Mexico and NW Atlantic distributions may constitute a single contiguous population (McMillen-Jackson & Bert, 2004) that is currently assessed and managed independently in the US region: NW Atlantic (NOAA, 2013b) and in Northern Gulf of Mexico (Hart, 2012). A distinct assessment unit exists in Campeche Bank, Mexico (SAGARPA, 2012). Pink shrimp is caught along with brown and white shrimp in the NW Atlantic.
