Vermillion snapper (Rhomboplites aurorubens) in the South Atlantic Bight (Cape Hatteras, North Carolina to Cape Canaveral, Florida) and Gulf of Mexico region are likely to consist of one genetic stock (Bagley et al. 1999), albeit both the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council (SAFMC) and the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (GMFMC) provide an independent stock assessment for each assessment unit, Northern Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Coast US. These management bodies set the overfishing level (OFL) and allowable biological catch (ABC) separately as well.
